Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori: Celebrating Culture and Language at LM4 Group

Last week, LM4 Group proudly joined Aotearoa in celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, a special time dedicated to promoting and embracing the Māori language. It was a meaningful opportunity to not only learn the language but also to connect with the culture and values that it represents.

Embracing the Language and Culture

Throughout the week, our team engaged in a range of activities designed to encourage the use of Te Reo Māori, from simple greetings to practicing pepeha (introductions) and exploring whakataukī (proverbs). It wasn’t just about learning words, but about embracing the culture and fostering deeper connections within the team. Fluent speakers and beginners alike joined in, making it an inclusive and empowering experience for everyone.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori also gave us a chance to reflect on how the language embodies core Māori values like whanaungatanga (relationships) and kotahitanga (unity), and how these align with our company’s mission of building a connected and inclusive workplace.

Activities That Engaged and Inspired

A huge thank you goes to Rebecca Pae Jaram and Vesi Vaimoso for organizing engaging and interactive activities throughout the week. Highlights included the “Te Reo Challenge,” where team members practiced using Te Reo in conversations, reading and writing. These activities fostered a deeper appreciation for the language and strengthened our sense of community.

Looking Ahead: Continuing the Journey

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori is more than just a weeklong celebration for us—it’s part of an ongoing commitment to embracing diversity and cultural understanding. We’re excited to continue incorporating Te Reo Māori into our daily conversations and furthering our connection to Māori culture.

Kia kaha Te Reo Māori! Let’s keep the momentum going as we continue to learn and grow together.

Stay tuned for more updates on our cultural celebrations and efforts to uplift the beauty of Te Reo Māori!
